Caravan Alternative
Instead of the badges and normal caravan curriculum we could do something a little different this fall. We could do a bible study type course at the grade levels. Have the children study the bible as it seems this is a weak area. Have lessons geared to the books of the bible and people. Teach the children the bible stories and learn the difference between the old and new testaments.
Last year was a learning year for me. I saw the children struggle with basic bible knowledge items. I believe this lack of knowledge is the biggest reason they lost interest in lessons. The one quiz I did give them only a couple of kids finished and were only about 50 percent right.
I believe a well structured bible curriculum would benefit the children and help them with understanding and how to use that understanding in their lives. It should be a fun and learning study for the children to keep their interests.
This type of study can also be a fun change for the teaching staff. It would be a challenge to keep the children involved and learning God’s word. An example would be a 10 week study of people from the bible and what they did. Explaining who they were and what they did as part of God’s plan for them. Studying miracles God did through different people.
Just thoughts for the up-coming fall year.
